and does the law only apply to a puppy bought from a pet store? or does it apply to private adoptions as well?

Children are adopted.
ANIMALS are bought & sold…traded,leased,given away….
Anybody dumping *any* pup under ****TEN WEEKS**** is nothing but a cheap, ignorant lazy greedy negligent BYB-trying avoid proper vaccinations, worming feeding cleaning training

DO NOT buy from a pet store. They are stocked by puppy mills & you will not get a healthy dog. It would be better to adopt from a breed specific rescue than to go through a pet store.
A pup from a BYBer would be better than a pup from a pet store.
Keep in mind you get what you pay for. Most pups from a pet store are unhealthy & sickly & stocked by the horrid puppy mills.
ADDED:
By law it has to be at least 8 weeks of age.

All puppies have to be at least 8 weeks old to sell them.
This applies to adoption, rescues, pet stores, and breeders.

No pup in ANY state should be offered for sale/given away etc BEFORE the age of EIGHT weeks of age.
The law in mass only applies however to pet shops and in the importation of pups into the state for the purpose of selling.
Anyone wanting to rehome pups before 8 weeks of age for ANY reason is to be avoided.
Blue: No a BYB is NOT better than a petshop pup. Many small petshops get their pups from LOCAL bybs. And in the long run we are talking about the SAME quality of pups from untested and unproven dogs.
